Summary of Gowrie's field visit report, 22th May 2010

Ganam Builders work is progressing extremely well. The Zonal Education Departments’ Engineer has requested them to work daily in order to speed up work and avoid any delays that may arise due to rain ( as of now this is not yet a problem but given the unpredictable weather in the rest of the country it is a good precaution to take).

When we informed the Engineer about the other planned community based works for the toilet and water system, we were told that we could not proceed as planned without the Engineer’s approval. We have reached an agreement whereby the projects can be build under the guidance and close supervision of the Engineer. We are awaiting estimates and drawings, which will be send to C&C/Luca for approval. Later, we will discuss the repair of the floor of the old building, extension of office and playground with the Zonal Education Department Engineer

Next planned field visit is on 29th May 2010.

Summary of Gowrie’s field visit report, 13th of May 2010.

We visited the school site and met with representatives from Ganam Builders and the school principal. The work on the building is progressing in advance of the workplan. The foundation work is almost 75% per cent complete. We watched the labour both skilled and unskilled working with committment and enthusiasm.

We have received 3 estimates for the other small projects - one for the toilet repairs, one for the water pump and plumbing, one for the mounting of the water tank and constructing the pump house. We went through them in great detail as they were quite high. I have requested all 3 to be revised according to the guidelines we have given by C&C. Once I obtained them to suit the needs of the work, I will forward to you with the necessary justifications. Of course this means that the community based works will be delayed.

The School Principal is very practical and helpful and I am very pleased with the progress.

Next field visit planned for Saturday 22th May 2010.

Summary of Gowrie’s field visit report, 6th of May 2010.

Contractor had delivered the first load of building materials even before the Agreement was signed. The type of on site monitoring were agreed upon and it was agreed to arrange for water supply for workers.

School teachers and acting principal were very happy with planned work.
Detailed discussions were held on the planned sanitary projects. It was agreed that there will be an extension to the existing toilet bank to have a total of 6 toilets for the students and 2 toilets for the teachers. Exisiting sewerage drainage system would be checked to ensure that it is working properly. Meeting with the Zonal Educational Direcotr who clarified that only ICTAD registered builders would have been allowed to construct the works and that we had made a good choice of contractor.

There was a discussion on the proposed colour, Engineer informed that only light colour weathershield paint will be approved. Therefore, the purple requested by C&C was not possible. As only whitewashing is included in the estimate, the paint will be an extra cost. There is a light plum colout which is quite cooling ..will send CC the colour chart. Next field visit planned for Saturday 15th May 2010.
